A sacred space for kids to worship, wonder & be.
As an Open and Affirming Church, Heart of the Rockies has affirmed that all are welcome to participate and lead regardless of age, ability or other identity. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14).
Our children worship with God and have a relationship with God in all the ways they sing, pray, and create. We believe that children belong in worship and we also know that our children need a space where they can be just themselves so they can feel affirmed in who they are.
The Prayground is a space just for our families and children, located near the sanctuary in what was previously called the nursery. In this space, our children will have:
- A Prayer board to share their prayers
- A Wonder board with wondering questions based on the season
- A Worship & Wonder Story to tell the stories of God
- Crafts and art supplies
- New books with a suggested book for each season set out
- A communion set (previously set up in the back of the sanctuary)
- A new table where they can gather
Families with infants and younger children still have a space to change and rock their little ones. Extra supplies are always available if needed. Please see a child care worker or look for the cabinet labeled “changing supplies”.
Worship Activity Kits are available in the sanctuary for all ages as well.
A child care worker and children’s church volunteer will be stationed in this space at all times. All of our adults who work with children and youth are background checked.
At this time, we ask our parents and caregivers to be responsible for restroom needs and supervising children as they go back and forth from the sanctuary and the Prayground. Each week, our child care worker will be sanitizing the supplies that are used. If your child brings any supplies from the Prayground into the sanctuary or you use the space in between services, please return and wipe down what is used with a Clorox wipe (these are provided on the counter).
We are so excited to share this space with you. We continue to pray with you. Heart of the Rockies is with you and your family as you journey through this amazing, hard, and beautiful life with each other and with God.
